SAFER Birth training is led by practitioners with years of hands-on experience in birthwork, trauma-informed care and survivor support.
Lead Trainer
Michaela Kalusová
Michaela Kalusová is a specialist doula, educator and trauma-informed practitioner based in London, and the founder and Lead Trainer of SAFER Birth Project.
​
For fourteen years she has supported women through pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period, working one to one with around 300 women and running courses for thousands of women and families through the programmes she has created.
​
In the Czech Republic she founded Ammadula Academy, a doula training school where she teaches and mentors doulas, and an antenatal education company with lecturers working across the country.
​
She holds a Masters in Psychology, studied pre- and perinatal psychology with APPPAH, trained with Dr Michel Odent, and completed When Survivors Give Birth practitioner and educator training with Penny Simkin and Phyllis Klaus.

Community Training
Thando Zwane
Thando Zwane is a birthkeeper, antenatal educator, doula trainer and mentor with over 13 years of experience supporting women and families through pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period.
Her professional background also includes supporting women experiencing domestic violence, mental health challenges and survivors of trafficking for sexual exploitation. These experiences have shaped her understanding of trauma, vulnerability and the importance of compassionate, individualised care.

She is the co-founder of Birthing in Colour, a perinatal safe space for Black and South Asian women, dedicated to improving experiences and outcomes in maternity care.
​
Alongside supporting families, Thando trains and mentors doulas at different stages of their professional journeys. Her teaching is grounded in evidence, practical experience and a deep respect for bodily autonomy, informed choice and culturally safe care.
